Last Vegas [2013] ★★½

last_vegas_ver2Some actors don’t always need a great movie. Just the pleasure of their company is enough. And so Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas and Morgan Freeman turn “Last Vegas” into pure entertainment. Add Kevin Kline to the mix and things get a little bit more wacky. The plot involves three old friends, Archie (Freeman), Paddy (De Niro), and Sam (Kline) who travel to Vegas to attend their friend Billy’s (Douglas) bachelor party. You can probably guess what happens next. Dan Fogelman’s screenplay doesn’t offer many surprises, but every scene is crafted in a way that only actors of this caliber and history can provide. Director Jon Turtletaub tries to avoid cliches as much as possible, but there’s no need. Not with these guys around. So while “Last Vegas” is not a very good movie, there’s no way to dismiss a film that puts so many great actors on display. They may be too good for a comedy like this one, but they certainly make it watchable and above all, entertaining.
