It’s a damn shame that this movie will never get a theatrical release. It may be dumb and derivative, but it has some pulse-pounding action scenes worth experiencing on the biggest screen possible. No matter. “Extraction”, written by Avenger’s Joe Russo and directed by Sam Hargrave, is now streaming on Netflix, which means you can clear up your schedule, order pizza and beer, and enjoy this big budget action film on the small screen. Chris Hemsworth trained endlessly to prepare for his role as Tyler Rake, a mercenary who is recruited to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord. Simple task? You’d think. As soon as our man steps foot in Bangladesh, all hell breaks loose. It’s a set-up for gun battles/man to man fights, and Hemsworth makes the best of it. Looking for quotable dialogue? You won’t find any here. “Extraction” promises brainless action and delivers. If this is your cup of tea, you’ll have a blast with it. Otherwise, might as well look elsewhere. I don’t think I’ll remember this movie a few weeks from now, but I can’t say I didn’t enjoy what it had to offer, at least for a while.
