Ever wondered what your pets do when you leave the house? The people behind “The Secrets Life of Pets” have got it all figured out. Some listen to loud music while others invite their friends over for a fun-filled day. For Max the dog (voiced by Louis C.K), his quiet life is disrupted when his owner Katie brings home a mutt named Duke one day. You don’t need to know more except that directors Yarrow Cheney and Chris Renaud are experts at springing surprises from the clever script by Despicable Me’s Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio. Even when it gets too dark for kids (and believe me, it does), Cheney, Renaud and their group of talented voice actors that includes Eric Stonestreet, Lake Bell, Albert Books and Kevin Hart (in an amusing role) still make make funny, fresh entertainment out of it. It might not be in the same class as Pixar’s “Finding Nemo” or Disney’s “Zootropolis”, but one thing’s for sure: adults and their kids will have a mighty good time watching it .
