  • Attack of the Giant Leeches [1959]

Low budget flick has Giant leeches terrorizing a small american town. We don’t really know how they got there, but we do know that they have an appetite for blood. As ridiculous as it sounds (though im a huge fan of that poster). Fun fact: “The giant leeches are played by actors in sack-like suits made of thin…

  • The Unbearable Lightness of Being [1988]

“I’ve met another man. He’s the best man I’ve ever met. He’s bright, handsome and he’s crazy about me. And, he’s married”.  Fantastic movie set in 1968 about a doctor and ladykiller who meets a young country girl and falls in love with her. His former lover Sabina accepts the fact that he’s getting married,…

  • Repo Men [2010]

Weak sci-fi movie set in the future, when artificial organs can be purchased on credit. A man (Jude Law) who recently bought a heart is having trouble making the payments, so he must go on the run before his heart is “repossessed”. A good premise, but it goes on way too long and never reaches…

  • More Marx Brothers Quotes: A Day at the Races [1937]

1-Dr. Hackenbush: I’m too busy right now. I’ll tell you what. I’ll put the ‘O’ on now and come back later for the ‘K.’ 2-Dr. Hackenbush:  Do you like gardenias? Flo: I adore them. How did you know? Dr. Hackenbush: I didn’t, so I got you forget-me-nots. One whiff of this and you’ll forget everything.…

  • The Good, the Bad and the Ugly [1966] ★★★★

“You see, in this world there’s two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig”. Sergio Leone’s spaghetti trilogy comes to an end with style. Clint Eastwood leads the hunt for a buried treasure in this superior western movie about greed and…well gun battles. But it all comes…

  • Gandhi [1982]

“They may torture my body, break my bones, even kill me, then they will have my dead body. NOT MY OBEDIENCE!”. Extremely well told biography of Mahatma Gandhi, the small time lawyer who became the leader of the indian revolution against the british empire through his philosophy of non-violence. Ben Kingsley gives the performance of…

  • The Little Shop Of Horrors [1960]

“Feeeeeeeeeeed me!” Still fresh today, “The Little Shop Of Horrors” mixes comedy with horror and it works like magic. A young man nurtures a plant until it becomes carnivorous and must now feed on human flesh to survive. So it convinces him to start killing people (and he does!). I never thought a movie about…

  • Peacock [2010]

Bizarre movie (to say  the least) about a man who goes to work everyday dressed as a normal guy, but transforms himself into his dead mother during the night.  This went straight to DVD (with no theatrical release), and it’s easy to see why. Cillian Murphy is not a stranger to playing a drag, he’s done…

  • Coraline [2009]

Exceptional animated movie from director Henry Selleck (“The Nightmare Before Christmas”) about  a young girl who finds a secret door in her new home and discovers an alternate version of her life. Funny, with a chilling atmosphere and unique sense of humour. Director Seleck worked on the production design, which looks amazing in 3D. One…

  • Plan 9 From Outer Space [1956]

If not the worst, then definitely one of the worst movies ever made.  Bela Lugosi died after 2 days of shooting and he was replaced by a taller actor holding a cape over his face (how clever!). So bad, that it becomes unintentionally funny and quite good actually. The king of bad cinema strikes again! Fun fact:…

  • 9 [2009]

In a post apocalyptic world, there are no humans living anymore. Instead, the world is ruled by machines with an appetite for destruction. When 9 comes to life, he discovers a small community of others like him who are trying to survive and soon realizes that they must save the world or live in darkness…

  • After.Life [2010]

A young woman (Christina Ricci) dies in a car accident and wakes up in a morgue to find her funeral director (Liam Neeson) preparing her body for the funeral. She feels very much alive but the man keeps telling her that she’s in transition to the afterlife.  So painfully confusing that it requires a book…

  • Bride Of The Monster [1955]

I wouldn’t call “Bride of the Monster” one of the worst movies ever made. Ed Wood might have been the worst director of all time, but this is by far one of his best efforts. Bela Lugosi is hilarious (yet scary at the same time) as the mad Doctor who “wants to perfect his own…

  • The Sorcerer’s Apprentice [2010]

“I have been searching all over the world for you. You’re going to be a force for good and a very important sorcerer. But for now, you’re my apprentice.” If you’re a fan of magic and/or Nicolas Cage, then you will probably enjoy “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”. The way the folks at Disney have been promoting this movie made it…

  • Diary Of A Wimpy Kid [2010]

Full of jokes, pranks and silliness you’d expect to see in this type of film. But it works, thanks to a very likable cast. “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” is a pleasant surprise, it’s nothing we haven’t seen before, but it’s fun nevertheless. Stay tuned for a very cute animated show at the end. Rating:…

  • Grown Ups [2010]

Typical Adam Sandler comedy about 5 friends who get together for a fourth of July holiday weekend, and spend their time doing silly stuff. It almost seems like a TV episode; but it’s still watchable, with occasional laughs every now and then. Adam Sandler fans will probably enjoy this one, others beware. Rating: 2/4

  • Salt [2010]

”Salt” is a straighforward action movie that doesn’t waste anytime with useless dialogue and character development, but instead, takes us on a rollercoaster ride from start to finish. Angelina Jolie plays a CIA agent who is accused by a defector of being a Russian spy. She goes on the run, and you can probably guess…

  • Edge Of Darkness [2010]

Mel Gibson’s comeback was supposed to be explosive. It isn’t. His new movie is awfully slow and predictable. Anyone expecting another “Taken” in the making will definitely be disappointed. There isn’t much going on here, and we barely see some action. Too bad. Rating: 2/4

  • Cop Out [2010]

Very unusual comedy from talented director Kevin Smith about 2 cops who find themselves up against a bunch of gangsters. Very disappointing to say the least. Bruce Willis is totally wasted in this one. Rating: 2/4

  • Ben-Hur [1959]

Epic. That’s all there is to say. Winner of 11 academy awards including best picture, best actor (Charlton Heston), and supporting actor, “Ben-Hur” is one of cinema’s most precious treasures. Long (almost 4 hours), but incredibly entertaining and deeply moving. The finale left me breathless! A wonderful movie in every sense of the word. Rating: 3.5/4
