Prepare yourself to see Sherlock Holmes like you’ve never seen him before: old, tired and regretful. This is Holmes at 93 (impeccably portrayed by Ian McKellen), dealing with a failing memory and living on a farm, where he relies on a widowed cook (Laura Linney) and her son, Roger (Milo Parker) to take care of him. In flashbacks, we learn more about the detective’s final case, one that involves a married woman who may be hiding something from her husband. Bill Condon directs his movie with a keen eye for detail, and McKellen’s performance is nothing short of spectacular. The result is a movie you don’t want to miss.
