This sequel to the 2012 surprise hit put a smile on my face from start to finish. So what if it comes up short in originality and surprise? It’s still hard to resist. Adam Sandler reprises his role as Count Dracula, who is worried that his half-human, half-vampire grandson, Dennis, isn’t showing signs of being a vampire. This forces him to put Dennis through a “monster-in-training” boot camp while his parents are in California. Sandler, who also co-wrote the screenplay, does a fine job (surprisingly), and he is surrounded by the likes of Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, Steve Buscemi and David Spade. Everyone seems to be having fun, including the kids who were at the screening I attended. Director Genndy Tartakovsky indeed never lets up on the laughs. The use of 3D technology doesn’t add much to the experience, but the high spirits of “Hotel Transylvania 2” are irresistible fun. I think fans of the series will not be disappointed.
