Aussie actor Joel Edgerton couldn’t have picked a better vehicle to explode his proper skills as a loner who can’t seem to let go of the past. Edgerton also directs Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall, who play a wealthy married couple who have moved from Chicago to Los Angeles for a fresh start. Things go crazy weird when Simon bumps into his old schoolmate Gordo (Edgerton) one day. Later on the couple starts receiving one bizarre gift after the other. Is Simon hiding something? Or is Gordo simply trying to mess with them? That’s the hook that will lead you into “The Gift”, a mesmerizing mind bender that will keep you pinned to your seat until the final, devastating twist. It’s hellish good fun and a perfect opportunity for Bateman to show off his dramatic skills. “The Gift” shakes you up good. Maybe good thrillers haven’t died yet in Hollywood.
