Early reviews have been telling you to avoid “Out of the Shadows”, the sequel to 2014’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”. I’m not here to do the same. For one thing, I knew what I was in for: Pizza, more nostalgia and non stop action scenes. In the first movie, we got an explanation on how the turtles came to be. In this sequel, the turtles’ nemesis Shredder joins forces with mad scientist Baxter Stockman (Tyler Perry) and newcomers Bebop and Rocksteady to take over the world. Straightforward stuff. Basically, if you grew up watching the animated series in the 90’s and didn’t mind what the first movie had to offer, you will feel the same about “Out of the Shadows”. There’s no doubt in my mind that the production (signed Michael Bay) is still needlessly overlong and overblown. But it’s certainly entertaining and has some funny moments. As a ninja turtles fan, I still think this is an OK attempt to revive a series that was long gone. Will there be more movies? That’s a given. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
