“The Forest” is one of those horror movies with an intriguing plot but not enough ideas to keep it going. It goes without saying that Game of Throne’s Natalie Dormer makes the overall result feel less terrible than it actually is. She plays a woman who travels all the way to Japan to search for her twin sister, who may or may not have committed suicide in Aokigahara’s suicide forest. There are no twists and turns here, mainly because first time director Jason Zada plays his cards much too early and fails to keep us intrigued before the predictable finale. Damn shame. Natalie Dormer keeps “The Forest” afloat for a while, but even she can’t save it from being just a routine horror movie with nothing new to offer.
