The first Dumb and Dumber hit theaters in 1994, which in Bieber years is about a century ago. Did we need a sequel? As a long time fan of Harry and Lloyd, I’d say hell yes. I can’t recall the number of times I’ve seen the first film. But I do recall the number of times I kept saying to myself “I hope they don’t ruin it” on my way to see “Dumb and Dumber To”. These characters mean too much to me to let a sequel diminish them. The minute the picture started, I breathed a sigh of relief and broke out in a smile. This is an entertaining movie, the kind these guys (and their many fans) deserve. It’s been two decades since Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels played these roles, but they still fit them like a glove. Or maybe it’s just that the sequel is really the same movie with a slight update. I’m not complaining. Really. Directors Bobby and Peter Farrelly have updated the plot from 1994 to 2014, where Harry (Daniels) finds out he has a daughter who was adopted. That’s cue for yet another road trip with his long time partner Lloyd (Carrey). I’m not going to spoil the jokes by telling you what these idiots do (it’s mostly more idiot stuff). But I will tell you I can watch them do it forever. Is the film a wonderful achievement? Of course not. But even an unexceptional Dumb and Dumber movie is better than none. And it’s so good to finally see these goofy characters back on the big screen. Face it: you wouldn’t want to miss that.
