Hate on Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s bizarre comedy all you want. But these dudes know exactly what they’re doing. Yes “This is the End” is built on a one joke premise, but it’s one heck of a joke. Take James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Danny McBride, Michael Cera, Craig Robinson, Jason Segel and Jay Baruchel who all play a fictionalized version of themselves (or is it?) and get them to survive the apocalypse. Franco looks stoned (as usual). Cera gets labeled a perv. Hill gets raped by the devil himself. Everyone is portrayed as crazy. And that’s just half the fun! Either you turn the movie off right away or you surrender to it. I admit: it goes on for way too long and at some point I felt the life slowly draining from it. But until then, it’s a hoot. Even when the script is freighted with formula, the right actors can keep it afloat. That’s where the movie really lucks out. All the actors involved have skills and can get laughs without even trying (especially Rogen and Hill who are simply hilarious). There isn’t much else to be said for this guilty pleasure except that it delivers exactly what it promises. Just see for yourself.

Where did you watch it? I want to watch it in the movie theatre but no one was showing it.
