Howl’s Moving Castle [2004] ★★★★

One of the best animated movies ever made from master filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki (“Spirited Away”, “Ponyo”) about a teenage girl who finds her life thrown into turmoil when she is turned into a 90 year old woman by an evil witch. Embarking on a journey to lift the curse, she finds refuge in a magical castle, where she meets a hot-headed fire demon and the mysterious “Howl” (voiced by Christian Bale if you’re viewing the english version). Together, they embark on an incredible adventure, where they must fight a dangerous war of sorcery that threatens their world. This mystical tale offers a unique experience, turning from happiness to sadness to a sense of awe in the blink of an eye. I’ve never seen anything quite like it before, and never will. Hayao Miyazaki completely outdid himself here, bringing to life his best creation yet (even better than “Spirited Away” in my opinon). In one word: wow!

Fun fact: Upon seeing Spirited Away, Christian Bale immediately agreed to play any role in this film.
