I guess I’ll never quite understand why I loved this movie so much, but I really did. It’s one of my favorite films of the year and it makes me sad that it didn’t get the attention it deserves. It’s a superior science fiction movie that ranks among the best of its genre. Sam Rockwell is brilliant as an astronaut finishing up a three year contract on the moon, mining energy from lunar rock. He wants out so he could get back to his wife and daughter. So far so good. But then an accident happens, and a new astronaut appears looking just like the old one. I won’t reveal more of course but I will quote Peter Travers on this one: “Moon is a potent provocation that relies on ideas instead of computer tricks to stir up excitement”. Amen to that.
