Idris Elba shows ass kicking skills in “Bastille Day”, a Luc Besson kind of action thriller that starts out well enough but runs out of steam way too early. Elba, 43, looks ripped and ready, playing a former CIA agent who teams up with a con artist (Game of Thrones’ Richard Madden) to take down a bunch a bad guys in Paris. Looking for twists? You won’t find any here. Despite my admiration for Idris Elba (who gives it his very best), the movie degenerates into setups for guns and cliches. Too bad. Elba clearly deserves better. And so do we.
