“Deadpool” is everything an R-Rated superhero movie could hope to be: fast-paced, hilarious and incredibly entertaining. And yet I have to admit that I didn’t know what to really expect given its odd (but brilliant) marketing campaign (oh, Betty White) and the fact that Ryan Reynolds fucked up (excuse the language but it is an R Rated movie after all) “Green Lantern” back in 2011. What I got was a solidly crafted, brilliantly acted superhero flick that ranks with the best movies from the Marvel universe. You heard me. Haters will probably say that the movie is too violent at times, extremely rude and just downright ridiculous. To quote the ever so lovely Deadpool himself: “Oh, suck a cock”. Reynolds plays Wade Wilson, an ex Special Forces operative who meets an falls in love with a hooker called Vanessa. But then Wade gets cancer which forces him to seek an all new medical experiment that ends up turning him into…wait for it… Deadpool! Director Tim Miller stages some of the best ass-kicking sequences I’ve seen in a very long time while keeping his story constantly intriguing. Still, the movie belongs to Reynolds, whose sensational performance will be talked about by fanboys for years. His scenes with X-Men’s Colossus (Stefan Kapicic) and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) are a hoot. “Deadpool” is blockbuster entertainment at its best. If you’re a true superhero geek, you won’t be disappointed.
