A flop in the United States back in October, the underrated “Our Brand Is Crisis” may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for a political satire set in the 21st Century, I thought it was entertaining and fiercely honest. Sandra Bullock is well cast as an American campaign strategist called “Calamity” Jane Bodine ,who travels all the way to Bolivia to work on the presidential campaign of an arrogant man called Castillo (Joaquim de Almeida). Her task is to find ways to convince the people of Bolivia that all they need is Castillo, even if she has to play dirty. The story may be fictional, but it’s hard not to relate to everything happening onscreen (maybe because we live in a country filled with corruption?). Director David Gordon and his screenwriter don’t always get it right, and the movie is slightly overlong, but unlike many critics, I actually had a good time watching it.
