Two summers ago Jason Sudeikis and Jennifer Aniston hit a peak with “Horrible Bosses“. “We’re The Millers”, co-starring Emma Roberts and Will Poulter isn’t in the same league, but it delivers exactly what it promises, and after a series of disappointing comedies this year (remember the lousy “Hangover 3”?) that is a great relief. Sudeikis plays a drug dealer who finds himself in trouble as soon as the movie opens. The only solution is to do a favor for his supplier (Ed Helms) by going to Mexico and smuggling pot back across the border. But in order to succeed he’s going to need a solid plan: hire a few people and pretend to be an average American family travelling in an R.V. That’s where Jennifer Aniston, Emma Roberts and Will Poulter come in. To be honest, I feared that we might have seen all the funniest bits in the trailers. Fortunately, I was wrong. The preview only shows a glimpse of what Sudeikis and Aniston can offer. Of course the plot couldn’t be more predictable, but the movie has enough raunchiness and just the right camaraderie among its stars, which turns out to be the movie’s greatest strength. And even as it reached its two hour mark, I still didn’t feel it, because the screenplay never ran out of funny dialogue. “We’re The Millers” may not be exceptional (far from it), but it is diverting and entertaining, which is all one could ask of a mainstream Hollywood comedy these days.
