The Vow [2012]

“The Vow” is the best romantic movie I’ve seen in a long time. Lol not really. It’s actually pretty formulaic, and the dialogue is filled with tiredย clichรฉs. Yet we are told right from the beginning that the story was inspired by true events, and because of that, I have to cut the movie some slack. The story goes that there’s a woman (played by Rachel McAdams) who, after a car accident, had no memory of her husband (Channing Tatum). Solution? Persuade her to fall in love with him all over again. Sounds straight out of a Nicholas Sparks’s book if you ask me. Meanwhile, and through flashbacks, we learn how they met and fell in love in the first place. Then after the accident, we meetย her estranged parents, played by Jessica Lange and Sam Neill, who seize on her amnesia to reclaim their daughter. McAdams literally saves this from being a complete waste of time. As for Tatum, I’m not really sure he belongs here. I mean wasn’t he downright terrible ย in that lame chick flick “Dear John” a couple of years ago?ย Director Michael Sucsyย hasn’t got it all wrong though. He’s made a good choice in bringing along two of its leads, Jessica Lange and Sam Neill. Both are veteran actors, and they make the best out of it. But overall, “The Vow” couldn’t be more predictable and dull as it reaches its climax. All that’s left for us is to admire McAdams’s performance, which is better than nothing, but not enough to make this a winner.ย Worse, “The Vow” asks us to believe that Channing Tatum can outclass Ryan Gosling in the art of romance. Not on this planet, baby.

  3. aww this is a let down, but i’ll see for myself. It will be shown tomorrow. True at first it is one of N. Sparks books but it isn’t it is a true story.. oh well.

    1. It is a true story but it plays exactly like a Nicholas Sparks’s movie. Painfully cheesy.

      1. lol i believe yes appropriate comment, painfully cheesy..but it is a true story, unlike N.SParks which are all fiction.. but then i saw some interviews that some parts of the movie was edited / twisted from the real story. Like the main character was a sales man but i guess they had to change it for the movie…
