Evaluating any movie is a matter of personal taste. Filmmakers who deal withย an idea that has been done so many times before might find it difficult to bring something new to the table. This is my way of saying that I couldn’t standย “Battle: Los Angeles”.ย In fact, I had a violent reaction to the film, which I saw without expecting too much from it. I cannot convey to you how much cheese is sprouted by the actors in the movie (“you’re father was a real hero son”). Sometimes, a film is bad because the actors and directors don’t know any better (Skyline anyone?). But what do you say about a film that had a decent budget and A list actors, but still turned out to be an indescribable, horrific mess and an insult to our intelligence? Oh and you want to make things even worse? Throw in a couple of embarassing propagandas like “marines don’t quit”, and telling a little boy “I want you to be my little marine”.ย Be ready to puke, big time.
The story is extremely B movieish, which would definitely be fine if this was a B movie. However, this is supposed to be a big budget action flick, where this sort of script and dialogue should not be found. Alas, there’s zero plot, only Marine Military advertisement, and CGI action fodder for the computer game generation. Not my idea of fun. Don’t see this movie, but spend your money on something more useful, like a pen or an empty shoebox. And remember: “Marines don’t quit!!”.
