My Soul To Take [2010]

“My Soul To Take” is the horror version of “Gossip Girl”. Every character is just as annoying as the next one, but the good news is, they all get killed at some point during the movie. We have the Jesus freak, the mentally disturbed boy, the slut, the bully, the mean girl, and the blind kid (who I didn’t know was blind until the last minute). Oh and let us not forget the serial killer, who was “supposedly” killed on the night these kids were born. Now 16 years later, people seem to be disappearing again. Could this be the work of the same psychopath, reincarnated as one of the seven kids? You’ll die laughing trying to figure this one out. What’s more, the characters don’t seem to care that their friends are dying, so why should you?

The name Wes Craven is something of a legend to us horror fans. This is the guy who created one of the most iconic characters in horror history (Freddy Krueger). This is the guy who turned the genre on its head and gave it a breath of fresh air with his “Scream” trilogy. It’s also the same guy whose horror movies (“The Last House On The Left”, “The Hills Have Eyes” and “Nightmare On Elm Street”) are being remade by many young filmmakers eager to become the next him. So it disgusts me to see his name involved in this terrible mess. This is by far one of hist worst efforts as a director, and a major setback in his career as a master of horror. Skip it.

P.S: One of the best scenes in the movie has one of the kids dressed up as a crow at a school presentation. You know the film’s in trouble when you find yourself missing that crow uniform.

Fiasco!
