Paranormal Activity 2 [2010]

The first “Paranormal” movie was a huge hit, so I guess it was only a matter of time before the studio decided to release a second one. I admit: the first one had me hooked from the first moment and I thought it was very disturbing in its videocam style documentation of the strange goings-on in a suburban house. What’s more, I think it was a perfect example of why producers shouldn’t spend a lot of money on horror flicks. With a budget of just $15,000, the makers of this paranormal film managed to collect over a 100 million dollars. I was impressed. The second film is basically more of the same, only less likable. Why? it’s simple really; the first film was good in the way that it was slowly and genuinely building up suspense, and succeeded in delivering what it was building up (the climax was especially horrific). Here, all we are  given are small pieces of something dark and sinister heading our way, but unfortunately, it all add up to nothing. Of course, it works best towards the end when it creates a parallel existence to the climatic scene in part 1, but then it turns out to be a cliffhanger, advertising the upcoming part 3! Talk about a cheat. Not to mention the dreadful acting, and the hilarious “scary moments” (that’s right I said hilarious!). And remember: you were warned.
