The Kids Are All Right [2010]

Nic and Jules (Julianne Moore and Annette Bening) are in a long term, loving relationship. They both share two teenaged children, Joni and Laser. Nic is Joni’s biological mother, while Jules is Laser’s biological mom. The 2 children also share the same unknown sperm donor. On her 18th birthday, Joni decides that it’s time to finally look up her biological father; we learn that he’s in his late thirties, unmarried, and a very successful businessman. Complications arise when the father (played by a wonderful Mark Ruffalo) enters their family life. “The Kids Are All Right” is not a blockbuster movie; it’s in fact a small independant movie, but the story is so smart and entertaining, that it’s really hard to complain. It’s a clever, well observed movie about adult relationships, and the cast couldn’t be better (especially Annette Bening who gives an oscar worthy performance). One of the nicest surprises of the year; I suggest you check it out.

  1. Anis, I beg to differ. I didn’t like it all that much. Apart from the fact that homosexual relationships are shown as normal ones, without really emphasizing it in a commercial way, which I highly encourage, it was just okay to my taste.

I really truly honestly and deeply like your blog, though!
