Clever movie from director Kevin Smith (his directorial debut) about the lives of two store clerks named Dante and Randall. Dante gets called in on his day off, and once there, he finds himself dealing with multiple problems: his ex girlfriend (whom he still loves) is getting married, his girlfriend reveals some secret “stuff” about her past, another ex has died, his boss doesn’t show up on time, he has a hockey game at 2:00, and the customers couldn’t be more annoying. Also, his friend Randall who handles the video store next door can’t stop bothering Dante’s customers (and he does it in such a funny way). And worst of all: Dante wasn’t even supposed to be here today! Funny and honest, this little movie keeps coming up with twists and jokes, and never fails to entertain. Low budget, but better than most of the comedies we see nowadays. Jay and Silent Bob (played by Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith himself) steal every scene they appear in (they finally got their own movie years later). Followed by a sequel in 2006.

Rating: 3/4

  1. One of my favorite movies! And the sequels after it that have to do with Jay and Silent bob. There is also Clerks X released only few years back.

Jay and Silent bob also appeared in “Dogma”. They’re such a funny duo. Both clerks movies are smart and very funny. I could easily watch them over and over again!
