Powerful movie based on the novel “Push” about an overweight illiterate girl who enrolls in a new school in hopes to change her somehow sad life. She is abused by her mother, raped by her father and pregnant with her second child. Tough subject, and some of the scenes are too violent to stomach, but the acting is first-rate, especially Mo’Nique who gives an oscar worthy performance. Gabourey Sidibe as the title role is excellent aswell. And check out Mariah Carey as a social worker (she’s almost unrecognizable without make up!).
