It doesn’t break any new grounds, but “How To Be Single” provides light entertainment for anyone seeking a chick flick for Valentine’s weekend. Built on a template that’s familiar to anyone who has seen such movies as “Bridget Jones’ Diary” and “He’s Just Not That Into You”, this comedy uses an engaging cast that includes Dakota Johnson, Leslie Mann and the hilarious Rebel Wilson to create a likable enough crowd-pleaser. Dakota Johnson plays a 20 something woman who is experiencing single life for the first time in a long time. One day she meets Robin (Wilson) who decides to teach her the true art of “being single”. Wilson is a live wire, and all her scenes are pure gold. The script, written by Abby Kohn, Marc Silverstein and Dana Fox doesn’t always dodge the usual clichés, but director Christian Ditter keeps it sharp, amusing and fun to watch, even as it covers familiar territory. Just don’t take it seriously.
