These are dark times for Harry Potter and his friends. Voldemort is stronger than ever; he now has full control over Hogwarts and the ministry of magic. The days of Quidditch and learning magic are now way behind. The first part of the final chapter opens with a bang: a terrifying meeting of the ministry of magic lead by Voldemort plotting the death of our 3 heroes. They mean business this time and nobody can deny that. Harry moves his family away, and joins his old friends somewhere safe (or at least they thought it was safe). They learn to survive in isolation and this in my opinion is the most important part of the whole series. We’ve been following these 3 for almost a decade now, and this is the part where they finally enter the real world on their own. They try to be confident and work things out as a team, and they even joke around once in a while, while the world around them is falling into pieces. The late Dumbledore has left them clues to the whereabouts of the so called horcruxes, and if they manage to find and destroy those horcruxes, then Voldemort will finally be defeated.
“Deathly Hallows” improves a lot over “Half Blood Prince” (which left me wanting more); it’s a solid buildup to what promises to be one heck of a final showdown. Also, we get to see a lot more of the amazing Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort and Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix Lestrange (as crazy as ever). They both steal every scene they appear in. The movie ends in style; some said it was too abrupt, I beg to differ. I think it smoothly paves the way for part 2, which opens next july. I’m sure the last chapter will be a fitting finale to one of the most succesful series of all time. P.S: don’t forget to empty your bladders before you see this one. It’s a long ride (and you don’t want to miss a second of it).
