Netflix’s survival thriller “The Decline” had me going for a while, mostly because it relates to the world we live in right now. A bunch of strangers travel to a remote survivalist training camp in order to prepare for the next epidemic/economic crash (how ironic). Then an accident happens halfway through (no spoilers here since it’s in the synopsis), which forces everyone to turn against each other. On paper, this should be a set-up for one hell of a showdown. Unfortunately, the movie never rises above the routine, resorting to clichés on multiple occasions. It’s still almost entirely watchable, thanks to its short running time and an entertaining climax. But you should know right from the start that it’s nothing that you haven’t seen before, despite its more or less intriguing premise.
