Yes, it took a decade for director Ruben Fleischer to cook-up a sequel to his 2009 surprise hit. As a huge fan of the first film, this was damn worth the wait. But before that, and in true “Zombieland” fashion, let’s take a closer look at what the cast and crew had been up to since then: Emma Stone won an Oscar for her role in “La La Land”, Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson were both nominated for an Oscar, and director Ruben Fleischer went on to direct last year’s “Venom”. As fate would have it, they’re now reunited for “Double Tap”. 10 years have passed since the events of the first film. This also means more zombie killing experience. And yet, there’s a new, stronger breed that threatens to ruin all the fun. Cue Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” in one of the coolest opening sequences you’ll ever see in a zombie flick. Once again, Fleischer mixes fright and comedy in a way that feels damn near irresistible. It’s a total blast watching Harrelson’s Tallahasee kicking ass alongside Eisenberg’s Columbus and Stone’s Wichita. And newcomers Zoey Deutch and Rosario Dawson add to the fun. I can’t remember the last time a comedy made me laugh this much. I’d call “Double Tap” a guilty pleasure but there’s nothing to feel guilty about. This is easily one of the funniest and most entertaining films of the year.
