I know I know. How many more “Fast & Furious” movies are they going to keep making? But wait a minute. This spinoff might have the “Fast” gene, but it’s quite different than everything else we’ve seen so far. Ok maybe not entirely different, but Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham add something extra to it. So yes, “Hobbs & Shaw”, the 9th movie in the “Fast & Furious” franchise caught me off guard with its humor, fast-paced action scenes, and the solid chemistry between Johnson and Statham. They’re both hired to take down baddie Idris Elba-a cyber-genetically enhanced man- and save the world. Routine work. David Leitch directs with all the craziness and action you would expect from the guy who gave us “John Wick” and “Deadpool 2”. He’s the perfect candidate to direct these two action stars, and they both give it their very best. They’re the main reason this spinoff doesn’t completely sink into the generic quicksand from where it came from.
