Men In Black International [2019] ★★½

If there’s a decade that truly left an impact on me, it would be the 90’s. I played most of my video games and discovered a lot of movies during that era. When “Men In Black” was released in 1997, I thought it was a total blast. Of course, I would spend the next few years revisiting it whenever I had the chance (the film spawned two sequels as well, the last of which was in 2012). So when I heard that they were rebooting the series, I had my doubts. How do you kick things off again with a totally different cast? (Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are irreplaceable in my book). The good news is that Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson have good chemistry together. Of the plot, I’ll only say that Thompson is a new MIB recruit who partners up with Hemsworth to find a mole within the organization. Nothing new or revolutionary here, which might put some people off. But if you’re here for the cast, the gadgets, and the mayhem that ensues when our agents travel around the world to save the organization, then you’ll have fun watching this generic summer movie. The effects, much like the old films, are cheesy fun. But it’s the spark between Hemsworth and Thompson that truly saves this reboot. The movie would literally be nothing without them.
