The Possession Of Hannah Grace [2018] ★½

I was compiling my list of the year’s worst movies when I noticed that this film was playing at the local multiplex this week. So naturally, I had to see it. And I wasn’t disappointed at all: this is one of my favorite “bad” movies of the year; Generic, far from scary, and downright silly. With all the solid horror films being released recently, you’d expect something at least decent here. No luck. Worst of all, it borrows a lot from “Nightwatch”, one of the most underrated thrillers of the 90’s in my opinion (sue me), in which Ewan McGregor plays a night watchman at a morgue with a serial killer on the loose. Here, Shay Mitchell gets a job at the morgue, but instead of a serial killer we get a badly damaged cadaver that may or not be possessed (take a wild guess). So yes, “The Possession of Hannah Grace”, this decade’s 100th movie about exorcism, has nothing going for it. From the amateur acting, writing and directing to an ending that you can see coming from a mile away, this horror movie will bore you to death. It’s easily one of the year’s worst films.
