In a genre that suffers from extreme tiredness, filmmakers like James Wan are still delivering solid scares with such movies as “The Conjuring” and “Insidious”. Not the case with “Amityville: The Awakening”, a dreadful “kind-of-a” sequel to the 1979 movie. Even the actors make fun of the 2005 remake, unaware that the movie they’re in isn’t much better. In fact, it’s even worse, as we follow Belle (Bella Thorne, clueless as always) and her family, who decide to move into the infamous Amityville house, where a terrible murder occurred some 40 years ago. Can you guess what happens next? It’s the same old story, with absolutely nothing new to offer. Director Franck Khalfoun throws in every ghost cliche in the book, from stupid jump scares to repetitive nightmares. Chances are, you’ll fall asleep before the damn thing is over. This is as bad as it gets, folks. Do not waste your time or money on this turd.
