The Lego Batman Movie [2017] ★★★

digital-poster To say that Lego Batman was the funniest character in 2014’s “The Lego Movie” would be an understatement (at least for me). Naturally, they had to give him his own “Lego” movie, and it’s everything I hoped it would be: fast-paced, action-packed and a lot fun to watch. But all this wouldn’t mean a damn if the actor behind the caped crusader doesn’t go above and beyond the call of duty. Will Arnett doesn’t just voice Batman. He lives it. For plot, I’ll only say that Gotham is under attack (duh!) by the Joker (a hilarious Zach Galifianakis) and his gang of baddies (think Bane, Poison Ivy, The Riddler, The Penguin…to name a few), and it’s up to Batman to step up and save the day. Looking for a motive? The Joker wants Batman to admit that he’s his number one enemy. “I like to fight around”, Batman replies. Hilarious, to say the least. The movie, directed by Chris McKay, has so much energy and dozens of references to old Batman movies and series, it sometimes spins out of control. No worries, the fun is nonstop, and we owe it all to Arnett and a group of talented voice actors that includes Michael Cera (as Robin), Rosario Dawson, Ralph Fiennes (as Alfred), Jenny Slate and..surprisingly…Siri! McKay springs lots of surprises, including cameos from D.C and Warner Brothers Legends (my lips are sealed). “The Lego Batman Movie” isn’t like any animated movie you’ve seen before…but that’s exactly why you shouldn’t miss it. It’s a roller coaster ride from start to finish.
