Unstoppable [2010]

Denzel Washington teams up for the 5th time with director Tony Scott (they previously worked together on “Crimson Tide”, “Man On Fire”, “Deja Vu” and “The Taking Of Pelham 1 2 3”) in this edge of your seat movie about a runaway train carrying toxic chemicals on the verge of wiping out a whole city. It’s up to Washington and Chris Pine to do something about it and save the city from a catastrophe. I don’t think “Unstoppable” was meant to be a masterpiece; it’s strictly a popcorn movie (in other words a good waste of time), nothing monumental or anything, and it has what it takes to satisfy fans of the genre. Denzel Washington’s presence is more than enough to keep this movie afloat, even with an all too familiar plot (remember “Speed”?), and even when you know how things will eventually end. “Unstoppable” takes you on a rollercoaster ride from start to finish, and never gives you a chance to take a deep breath; now it’s up to you to decide wether or not you want to hop on that train.
